Emphatic Pronoun

Emphatic pronoun: When reflexive pronouns are used to put emphasis on a particular noun, they are called emphatic pronouns.

The emphatic pronouns (such as myself, yourself, herself, ourselves, themselves) consist of a personal pronoun plus refer or selves. The emphatic pronoun is used to emphasise the subject. e.g.

  • I myself solved this question.
  • She herself found the solution.
  • I will do it myself.
  • I myself saw him do it.
  • We will see to it ourselves.
  • You yourself can best explain.
  • He himself said so.
  • She herself says so.
  • It was told so by the teacher himself.
  • We saw the Prime Minister himself.
  • The town itself is not very large.
  • They themselves admitted their guilt.
